Baby It’s Cold Outside

Field Flow 1 Oil on Gessoed Paper 6" x 8"

The holidays are with us and it is cold.  I am not brave enough to venture outside to paint when it gets this cold. Too cold and icy to go for a four mile run and almost too cold for walking the dog (for the record, Clawed gave me THE look this morning to tell me to take the shortcut home).  This morning it was 5 degrees with a windchill of -6. This is the time when a reference to a heat index could be real comforting. Ironic when it’s this cold and the sun is shining brightly.

I was tempted to grab the sketch pad and camera to go searching for subject matter, but chose to use references I already have to create a couple small works. The fields I used are about 10 miles southeast of Rockford. My resource photos gave me good direction. The view outside and this mornings walk help to give me inspiration. The brushes seem to move themselves.  A couple fun paintings.
