Eagle’s Nest – Conover Square

November 20, 2010

November Pumpkins, Oil on Canvas 12" x 16"

As the weather started to get colder, my friends in the Eagle’s Nest group decided it was best to suspend our outdoor excursions until late spring. As we all enjoy painting together, I suggested that rather than give up for the season, perhaps we could change our focus. We came to the conclusion that we would get together once a week and paint a still life scene. A couple of the women have connections with a local facility. It is an old factory which has been converted to a small shopping mall. The owner of the facility agreed to allow us to utilize a space within the mall on Friday mornings to pursue our work.

Because I initiated the idea, I received the honor of bringing and setting up the first still life display. I am so used to working with what nature gives me in my landscape paintings, that it is different when I get to set up and move the still life elements to suit my design. Helen helped me to select a few items which would work together. To my delight, the other members were happy with the components and the set up for our painting. We painted through the morning and enjoyed seeing the results of the days efforts.

I look forward to meeting with my Eagle’s Nest friends to paint more still life scenes throughout the winter.
