2011 Workshops

December 8, 2010

Off North Boone, Watercolor on Arhes 140# CP 14" x 21"

I currently have two watercolor workshops scheduled for 2011.

February 19 & 20, I will conduct a two day workshop titled Painting the Winter Landscape in Watercolor. This workshop is sponsored by Rock Valley College (www.rockvalleycollege.edu).

Except for going outside to get photographs of the northern Illinois landscape blanketed in snow, you have been cooped up all winter. It’s time to come out of hibernation and join with others to learn and discover techniques and methods to help you convert those reference photos of our Midwestern winter into your works of art. During the morning, Tom will conduct exercises and demonstrate techniques used to depict landscape elements in winter. By the afternoon, you can paint a scene which emphasizes that element. Work from your own reference photos or those provided. Paint along as Tom paints the scene. Students should be able to complete (or nearly complete) a small painting each day.

June 6 – 9, I will conduct the workshop, Watercolor Techniques for the Summer Landscape. This workshop will be conducted at Dillmans Creative Arts in Lac du Flambeau Wisconsin (www.dillmans.com).

Learn techniques and new methods for painting some of the landscape elements common to Dillman’s and northern Wisconsin; water, rocks and trees.  Every morning, Tom will conduct exercises and demonstrate techniques used to depict specific landscape elements. By the afternoon, the students can paint a scene which emphasizes the element of the day. Students may work from their own reference photographs or from a reference provided by Tom. Students should be able to complete (or nearly complete) a small painting for each day. Prerequisite: Basic Watercolor Knowledge.

Please contact the sponsors to enroll for these workshops.
