Plein Air – Belvidere

Plein Air July 28, Oil on Canvas Panel 6" x 8"

Most days when I travel to paint, I have a preconceived idea of the subject matter which I will find…and paint. This day I did not.

My youngest son ran Cross-country in high school. I remembered his team competing on a field east of here. I decided to drive over to see if I could locate the park and explore the potential. On my way, I got side tracked when I found another park. A very active place and may hold some potential. It has roads, walkways, an old mill, gardens and a river. I ventured further, missed the turn off to the target zone and found another park, a nature area. The park may be limited access, but I will worry about that when the time comes. I back tracked and found the original target. It too offers some good possibilities.

By this time, my head was swimming with ideas and it was getting late. I decided to stop the car, find something to paint and then head back home for lunch. Not the fanciest of paintings, but it was fun and reminds me of the joy of discovering new places.
