Plein Air – Vogels View; Oil on Canvas Panel 12″ x 24″

My original paintings Vogels View, Skitty’s Realm, October Patterns and Pond Off Mud Creek have been accepted into the Seasons of the Land competition/exhibition. The exhibition is hosted by The Natural Land Institute. The exhibition will be on display November 1 and 2, 2012 at the Prairie Street Brewhouse, 200 Prairie Street, Rockford Illinois.

Skitty’s Realm; Oil on Canvas 28″ x 22″

October Patterns; Oil on Canvas 24″ x 36″

Pond Off Mud Creek; Oil on Canvas 8″ x 10″

PS: The entry form for this exhibition indicated that the Natural Land Institute would offer the works for sale and would accept a commission for any sales. I figure that is fair and right.

A few weeks after submitting my entry, I received an information packet in the mail. The cover sheet gave me the good news of the accepted paintings. Additional information included the usual consignment forms and labels, and then the zinger. The organization had to remind me that this is a fund raiser for their group and they decided to add the fun of a silent auction. They are looking for paintings to be donated for a silent auction. This was never mentioned in the prospectus.

UGH! So they expect to guilt me, a starving artist, to donate an original work of art, for which they will accept whatever small pittance of pocket change the attendee might have to offer, regardless of what harm that  might do to the price structure of my work at absolutely no benefit to my art, so that they can make a few dollars since they are not really going to try to promote sales of any of the art works and their attendees can leave the party with something by which to remember the affair. Sorry, I do not do door prizes.
