Sunspot

Sunspot – Oil on Canvas – 18″ x 24″

Artists prerogative at work. The actual scene was witnessed during a sunny, autumn weekend in Door County. It was mid-afternoon and the rest of the crew was relaxing and napping. I was restless, grabbed my camera and went for a walk through back-roads around Ephraim.

The sun lighting up a shaded area caught my eye. The foliage was thick near just past the path. I could see part of the base of a structure, obscured by loads of turning leaves. I played with the idea of removing some trees and leaves to reveal a structure. I played with the concept in a small 11″ x 14″ version, before taking it to this size. I am tempted to go larger yet. We’ll see.
