Calm Morn

April 11, 2018

Calm Morn – Oil on Canvas -22″ x 28″

During the deep cold of January, I worked this painting from a plein air sketch completed last summer. I took liberties with removal of a railroad bridge and some trees. Augmented the effect of sun pouring across the ripened fields.

October Drive and Flowers and Fence

January 5, 2018

October Drive – Watercolor on Arches 140# CP – 12″ x 16″

Used a plein air oil painting as a basis for the scene from Rock Cut State Park. Restraint needed to leave the white of the paper to help illustrate the brightness of the sunlight across the foliage and road.

An oil painting from my Cedarburg trip was the inspiration of the flowers in front of a picket fence. Would like to have been a little looser with the application of colors for the flowers. Perhaps it’s worth another try.

Autumn Willow and Pear Study

January 1, 2018

Autumn Willow – Oil on Canvas Panel – 8″ x 6″

Two more small oil paintings started as a resource for my Oil students. The willow tree is from a reference photo. The willow is at the entrance to Midway Village in Rockford. The pears were started to help my students understand methods for tackling folds in cloth. Both paintings were quickly requested by galleries for display (and sale – hopefully).
