Milk Bottle and Blossoms 3

Milk Bottle and Blossoms 3 – Oil on Linen Panel – 10″ x 8″

I grew some Sunflowers in the garden this year. Always a treat for the many songbirds that visit. One morning, I noticed that a squirrel had damaged a stem on one of the plants. The branch drooped and the blossoms did not look to good. Decided to cut and trim the branch and bring the blossoms into the house. I figured we might get a few hours out of the group.

Within a couple hours, the blossoms were back up and looking good. I decided to use them for a painting. Started this late in the day and was unable to finish the painting. Almost wiped out the work because the blossoms were all on the same plane and facing my light source. I decided to think about it overnight.

The next day was nice and I went out to paint en plein air. It was almost two days before I was able to get back to this painting By then, time and nature intervened. The blossoms sagged a bit and gave me alternation for the design. I incorporated the changes. Happy with the outcome.
