The Eagles Nest group planned to meet at a property south of Oregon. Well, it was closer to Dixon. It was a long ride for me.

The property had a couple buildings on it and an interesting stone house. But our ability to get an interesting view of the out buildings was limited and the view of the house alone just didn’t excite me. I walked around the property looking for a scene to paint and got a few reference photos. From the front yard, I had a nice view looking up the access road for the farm across the road. As I worked on my first painting, it occurred to me that this view would yield a good “longscape” (ex. 8″ x 16″). Unfortunately, I did not have one of these canvases with me.

I moved back to the entrance of this farm and worked on a view looking up the drive from the main road. Painting #2. I made a few modifications to the flowers to make it work. I did encounter a challenge when I went to add some Cadmium Red to my palette, and realized I had left the paint at home. I adjusted and incorporated Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium Orange and Dioxazine Purple.
