Door County

Waiting for Calmer Weather – Plein Air – Watercolor on Arches 140# CP – 6″ x 10″

My wife and I went to Door County Wisconsin for vacation. Our youngest was able to take a few days of vacation and joined us. Not much time reserved for painting though I managed to use open time to my advantage.

One of the days was rather cool and very windy. Wife and son decided they wanted to do some reading down at the public beach. I managed a watercolor despite the best efforts of the wind to cause disruption.

One morning we spent time at a park which overlooks a harbor. Son read and slept. Wife read. Dog slept. I captured a watercolor while a yoga class was in session nearby.

My wife took in a local farmers market and came back with a few items including a bouquet of flowers. Over the next few days, I did a couple paintings of the bouquet.

Although not a very productive trip, as far as my art was concerned, but it was very relaxing for my wife and son.

Shadowed Box 2

Shadowed Box 2; Oil on Canvas 30″ x 40″

Upon seeing the painting Shadowed Box (16″ x 20″) on display at the Regional Survey of Art 9 (at The Next Picture Show in Dixon, IL.), I felt that the design could make a great impact in a larger format. Even as this painting was in the early stages, my wife made comments that helped to confirm that this works.

I plan to have this on display during the upcoming Rockford Spring 2013 ArtScene. Flanked by a few of the door handle watercolors (i.e. Ceramic Sentry and When It’s Ajar), it could make for an interesting presentation.

A nice, large wall space in need of color could make a wonderful home for this work.

West Ogle Morn

September 8, 2011

West Ogle Morn, Oil on Canvas 11" x 14"

Painted in my studio from some sketches made during the 2006 Fields Project.

Early morning and I am meandering over gravel roads on my way to a breakfast. I gathered sketches and a few photos along the way. Following breakfast, I created a couple small watercolor paintings of the folks farm.
